My name is Cristie and I am a 22 year old graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, where I received my Honors Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I am a current graduate student at UT Arlington’s School of Social Work.
I am also the current Miss Arlington and will compete at the Miss Texas Pageant held on campus at UT Arlington in July 2010. I am a tireless advocate for cancer patients and their families and a passionate crusader for increased education, funding, research and support. I am equally committed to finding a solution to our health care crisis in order that all citizens have access to the medical care that they need. Currently, I serve on the board of the American Cancer Society’s Arlington Relay for Life. My PASSION is giving back, and I have performed over 7,000 hours of community service. Also, I am the founder and creator of “Cristie’s Cancer Crusaders”, an education program for Kindergarten through High School students. A top ten finalist and talent winner at the Miss Texas pageant, I credit the Miss America and Miss Texas scholarship pageants with allowing me to continue my education through the scholarships I received.
In addition to community service, I LOVE to sing, and I perform regularly across the state including at the Wylie Opry, Lone Star Park and the Texas Ranger Baseball Games. I have been singing since the age of 5, when I sang "The Goodship Lollipop" at the Little Miss H.E.B. Pageant. I call that foreshadowing at its best!
An article in the UTA Magazine & Website recently described me by saying I had a “Big Voice and Big Heart." I think it's pretty cool that I can say I sing, crusade against cancer, mentor young girls and compete in beauty pageants..... and I LOVE my Alma Mater!
